The SSS First-Year Excellence services and activities are open to all students in the program, but particularly assist students in achieving successful transition into the university during their first year at Rutgers–New Brunswick. The success coaches work with students to develop skills and achieve their academic and personal goals that support integration into the academic, social, and cultural landscape of the university.
First Year Excellence Seminar is a 1.5 credit, 8-week course offered to students during the fall semester for the purpose of establishing a community of support, navigating the college “hidden curriculum”, developing effective stress and time-management strategies, gaining strategies to overcome “imposter syndrome,” and learning about the abundance of on-campus resources available to enhance the success of Rutgers–New Brunswick students.
- Complete F.O.C.U.S. goals for the first year in college
- Participate in academic and personal success coaching workshops
- Understand how to complete financial aid applications (i.e. FAFSA) and search for scholarships
- Earn a minimum of 30 total degree credits
*Graduation Target: Minimum of 30 degree credits completed by end of the academic year for timely graduation
